Our gratitude is extended to the many volunteers from North Ayrshire Athletics Club and Officials from Ayrshire Harriers Association who’s help in running the event we couldn’t do without.

Race 1 – Saturday 25th January 2020

The first race of the North Ayrshire Schools Cross Country was a great success with 296 runners taking part, representing 29 Primary and 5 Secondary schools from throughout North Ayrshire.  Thanks go to North Ayrshire Athletics Club and their volunteers for their continued support of this annual event.

Race 2 – Saturday 7th March 2020
Race 2 – results
Following the cancellation of the race on 22nd February this race took place on Saturday 7th March 2020. Although there was a damp start to the days event this did not put off the 236 participants representing 23 primary schools and 5 secondary schools from throughout North Ayrshire. We look forward to the next race with hopeful some milder weather.

Race 3 – Saturday 28th March 2020
Race 4 – Saturday 2nd May 2020

There are four League meetings in the series. Remember, the overall League results depend on each athlete’s best three results, so participants need to take part in at least 3 out of the four races. Of course, any youngsters who wish to come along and run without necessarily taking part in the whole League are most welcome.

Each race usually follow at about 8-10 minute intervals however, all athletes should be prepared for their race to be called early in case of bad weather and ready to participate. All race meetings will adopt the same times and event format as follows:

9.00 – 9.45 am Registration

10:00 am – Race 1 P5 Girls 1,000m
10:08 am – Race 2 P5 Boys 1,000m followed by the P5 Age Group Presentations

10:16 am – Race 3 P6 Girls 1,000m
10:24 am – Race 4 P6 Boys 1,000m followed by the P65 Age Group Presentations

10:35 am – Race 5 P7 Girls 1,500m
10:46 am – Race 6 P7 Boys 1,500m followed by the P7 Age Group Presentations

10:55 am – Race 7 S1-S4 Girls & Boys 2,000m followed by the P5 Age Group Presentations

Each separate race will start as soon as possible after the conclusion of the previous race.

To save queuing on the day schools are asked to pre-register their teams prior to race day. However individual runners not entered through their school will be able to register on the day. Athletes doing this should report to the Registration desk, in the North Ayrshire Athletics Club House within the Track Area where their name will be added to the appropriate race list and they will be issued with a competitor number. Athletes whose entry has not been pre-paid by the school should pay the entry fee at this time. All competitors should have their correct number pinned securely at top and bottom to the front of their shirt/vest. Please note that the registration times are from 9:00am till 9:45am and no late registrations will be taken after this time.

The entry fee is £3.00 per race per runner.

The prizes will be:
1st, 2nd and 3rd individual placing in each race section
1st Girls’ and Boys’ Teams (3 athletes to count) in each race age group (Primary Schools only)
All competitors will receive a certificate of participation.
The overall League prizes will be calculated from each individual’s top three placings from the four events. The same will apply to the Team positions. This means that if an athlete misses one race, he or she can still be in contention for an overall League prize. The overall League prizes will be awarded to: 1st, 2nd and 3rd individual placings in each race section 1st Girls’ and 1st Boys’ Team in each race section (Primary Schools only)

League events will be postponed only where a risk assessment prior to or on race day indicates that this is appropriate, e.g. icy conditions, high winds, very heavy rain. The decision to postpone is usually made based on weather forecasting, and schools would then be advised by phone call on the Wednesday prior to the race. However, weather forecasting is not always entirely accurate, and sometimes a decision may be taken based on risk assessment at the venue early on race day. In this case, we will do everything we can to advise schools of the decision to postpone prior to the scheduled start time of the event. Postponed events are usually rescheduled by adding an event on after the scheduled end of the league.
