First Aid
First Aid Training Courses and Workshops available in 2024 include:
- First Aid at Work Qualification 3 day course
- First Aid at Work Refresher 2 day course
- Emergency First Aid 1 day course – Course can be tailored to your own needs and spread across 2 or 3 days
- Annual First Aid Refresher 3-hour course
- Paediatric First Aid 2 day course
- First Aid in Sport 2 days (or delivered over 4 evenings)
All courses are approved by the First Aid Industry Body

- Basic Paediatric First Aid (this course is perfect for new parents, those thinking of a career working with children, babysitters, grandparents and family members)
Courses may also be delivered on your premises and tailored to meet your needs. A covid -19 safety risk assessment must be completed prior to a course being delivered. Course Information
3 Day First Aid at Work
3 Day First Aid at Work is suitable for all workplaces, and general public
- The course is 18 hours contact time.
- Topics Covered: Acting safely and effectively in an emergency, Infection Control, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), AED, Treatment of Unconscious Casualty (including seizure), Wounds and Bleeding, shock, minor injuries, choking, fractures, sprains and strains, head injuries, spinal injuries, chest injuries, burns and scalds, eye injuries, poisoning, anaphylaxis, heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthmas and diabetes.
- Who can attend: Must be 16 years old on the start date of the course.
- What should you bring? – Face covering (proof of exemption will be required), Comfortable clothing, Water and Snacks, packed lunch.
- Pre course reading – N/A.
- Assessment is done by continuous observation and questioning throughout the course, along with multiple choice question paper.
- Successful learners will receive an approved certificate from an awarding body (FAIB) which will be valid for three years.
2 Day First Aid at Work (re-qualification)
The 2 Day First Aid at Work is suitable for those who already hold an approved in date First Aid at Work qualification or higher (proof of this will be required prior to course start date.
- The course is 12 -hours contact time.
- Topics Covered: Acting safely and effectively in an emergency, Infection Control, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), AED, Treatment of Unconscious Casualty (including Seizures), Choking, Wounds and Bleeding, shock, minor injuries, fractures, sprains and strains, head injuries, spinal injuries, chest injuries, burns and scalds, eye injuries, poisoning, anaphylaxis, heart attack, stroke, asthmas and diabetes.
- Who can attend: Must be 16 years old and hold a relevant in-date First Aid at Work qualification on start date of course.
- What should you bring? – Copy of First Aid at Work certification, Face covering (Proof of exemption will be required), Comfortable clothing, Water and Snacks, packed lunch, copy of in date first aid certificate.
- Pre-course reading – Recap the manual given during the 3-day First Aid at Work Training.
- Assessment is done by continuous observation and questioning throughout the course along with a multiple-choice question paper.
- Successful learners will receive an approved certificate from an awarding body (FAIB) which will be valid for three years.
1 Day Emergency First Aid
1 Day Emergency First Course suitable for all workplaces, volunteers, parents, carers, and general public.
- The course is 6 hours contact time.
- Topics Covered: Acting safely and effectively in an emergency, Infection Control, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), AED, Treatment of Unconscious Casualty (including seizure), Wounds and bleeding, shock, Minor injuries, choking, and recording of incidents.
- Who can attend: Must be 16 years old on the start date of the course.
- What should you bring? – Face covering (proof of exemption will be required), Comfortable clothing, Water and Snacks and packed lunch
- Pre course reading – N/A.
- Assessment is done by continuous observation and questioning throughout the course.
- Successful learners will receive an approved certificate from an awarding body (FAIB) which will be valid for three years.
Paediatric First Aid
Paediatric First Aid course is designed for individuals who care for children of all ages, this would include nursery staff, Teachers, childminders, play group leaders, parent/grandparents or those who wish to learn new skills in this area.
- The course is 12 -hours contact time.
- Topics covered: Acting safely and effectively in an emergency, involving an Infant or Child, Roles and responsibility of First Aider, Infection control, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), AED, Treating an unconscious Infant or Child, (Including Seizure), Choking, Respiratory problems, wounds and bleeding, shock, suspected Broken bones and dislocation, Head injuries, spinal injuries, Burns or Scalds, poisoning, Electric shock, Minor injuries, meningitis, Diabetes, Epilepsy, effects of extreme heat or cold.
- Who can attend: Must be 16 years old on the start date of the course.
- What should you bring? – Face covering (proof of exemption will be required), Comfortable clothing, Water and Snacks and packed lunch.
- Pre course reading – N/A.
- Assessment is done by continuous observation and questioning throughout the course and multiple-choice question paper.
- Successful learners will receive an approved certificate from an awarding body (FAIB) which will be valid for three years.
First Aid in Sport
SYFA approved trainers, suitable for sports coaches or those who are looking for more knowledge in sports first aid.
- The course is 16-hour contact time.
- Topics covered: Role of First Aider, legal responsibilities, first aid at sporting events, The first aid room and kits, Incident assessment Inc sending for help and personal safety, choking and suspected heart attack, bleeding injuries Inc management for shock, management of wounds and burns.
- Medical conditions in sport Inc Asthma, Diabetes, Seizures and environmental problems Inc heat/cold basic life support, management of the unconscious casualty, recovery position, injuries to the head Inc facial injuries, injuries to the limbs – soft tissue and suspected fracture and spinal injury.
- Who can attend: Must be 16 years old on the start date of the course.
- What should you bring? – Face covering (proof of exemption will be required), Comfortable clothing, Water and Snacks and packed lunch
- Pre course reading – Those who have previously attended SYFA First Aid course can recap on Manual with some home study work to complete.
- Assessment is done by continuous observation and questioning throughout the course along with a multiple-choice question paper.
- Successful learners will receive an approved certificate from an awarding body (FAIB) which meets the guidelines for the emergency First Aid at Work and valid for three years.
Basic First Aid for Children
Basic First Aid for children age 5 – 8 years, for those wanting to learn first aid skills
- The workshop is 2 hours contact time.
- Topics covered – discussion on contacting emergency services, relevant incident details/information to pass on, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), choking, game-based scenarios.
- All children will receive a certificate of attendance.
Junior First Aid
Junior Emergency First Aid training for 9 to 15 years.
- The workshop is 2 hours contact time.
- Concentrating on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Choking, wounds and bleeding.
- All children will receive a certificate of attendance.
Basic Paediatric First aid for New Parents
Learn Basic First Aid skills required for baby and child suitable for New Parents/ grandparents and family members.
- The workshop is 3 hours contact time
- Topics covered – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Infant and child, AED, chocking, discussion on other serious injuries.
- All attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.
Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid courses may also be delivered on your premises and tailored to meet your company requirements. 2-Day Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace
Suitable for anyone who has line manager responsibility, who is responsible for staff’s wellbeing or wants to increase their awareness of mental health and wellbeing and how they can influence it in the work place.
- Topics Covered-Recognising possible signs and symptoms of a person that has Mental Ill-Health or is suffering with stress.
- Understanding Mental Health and its stigma Using a Mental Health Action Plan to help those in crisis or need.
- Finding external professional help and guidance.
- The law in relation to mental health and the workplace.
- Best practice when helping someone to stay in work or return to work.
- Understanding of more complex mental health conditions.
- Promoting well-being in the workplace and how you can become an Ambassador for Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Information on self-care to aid prevention to help others and yourself
1- Day Mental Health in the Workplace
