We’re investing over £1.2 million to enhance fitness facilities across North Ayrshire, creating modern, high-quality spaces to improve your experience.
As part of this programme, we’re upgrading gyms and introducing brand-new specialist studios, working in partnership with Matrix Fitness to bring you state of the art equipment and refreshed environments.
What’s happening?
We’ve developed initial designs for our new gym and studio spaces, and many of you have already helped shape these through surveys and focus groups – thank you! While designs we’ve shared may continue to evolve, they reflect an exciting vision for the future of our facilities.
Upcoming refurbishment schedule
To deliver these improvements, temporary gym closures will be required as part of a phased programme:
Auchenharvie Leisure Centre
- Gym will close: Saturday 27 June
- Gym will reopen: Wednesday 15 July
- Includes: Full gym upgrade + new Functional Training studio
Vikingar! Leisure Centre
- Gym will close: Wednesday 15 July
- Gym will reopen: Saturday 1 August
- Includes: Full gym upgrade + new Reformer Pilates studio
Portal Leisure Centre
- Gym will close: Saturday 1 August
- Gym will reopen: Wednesday 19 August
- Includes: Full gym upgrade +new Reformer Pilates and Functional studio

Garnock Valley
We’re really excited to share with you our plans and developments for facilities within the Garnock Valley. Further information on these developments and the programme of works will follow shortly.
Supporting our communities
As we refresh our facilities, we’re also giving back. We’re offering a selection of used gym equipment free of charge to local sports clubs and community groups, helping to support grassroots activity and make the most of existing resources. Why are the gyms being refurbished?
This investment will modernise our gyms and studios, improve the customer experience and ensure our facilities continue to meet the needs of our communities and customers.
When will the refurbishment start?
The first phase is scheduled to begin at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre from 26th June.
Will the gym close during the works?
Some temporary disruption will be required. A full timeline of closures is listed above. Alternative training arrangements will follow shortly.
Will my membership be affected?
We will ensure members are kept informed of any changes and provide details of any alternative arrangements where required.
Will I still be able to attend classes?
We will work to minimise disruption and will communicate any temporary timetable or venue changes as early as possible.
What new equipment will be installed?
The refurbishment will include a range of new cardiovascular, strength and functional fitness equipment designed to improve the overall gym experience plus new studio layouts including functional, reformer pilates and more.
How were the designs developed?
The designs have been shaped through staff feedback, customer surveys, focus groups and operational input from our teams with the emphasis on enhancing our customers experience.
Can I provide feedback on the designs?
Yes. We welcome customer feedback and will continue engaging with members throughout the project.
Will membership prices change?
There are currently no planned changes to membership prices as a result of the refurbishment programme.
