Girl Make Your Move
Girl Make Your Move is here to inspire and encourage women of all ages to get active! Our aim is to celebrate and highlight the fantastic opportunities for girls and women to take part in sport and physical activity across North Ayrshire. For more information visit www.girlmakeyourmove.co.uk
Whilst physical activity is recognised as helping young people stay mentally as well as physically healthy, research conducted by the Scottish Government also found that Girls were more likely than boys to feel pressured by school work, less likely to say that they like school and more likely to have felt lonely in the last week. Fewer than half of all 15-year-old girls said that they felt full of energy or were able to pay attention in class in the previous week.
The Scottish Government, in partnership with Spirit of 2012 (an official Legacy Partner of the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games) launched the Sporting Equality Fund to increase the number of women and girls in Scotland who participate in sport and physical activity. The Fund aimed to encourage:
- More women and girls to participate in sport and physical activity
- An increase in personal wellbeing through participation in sport and physical activity
- And enable the inactive to be more active
- And enable the inactive to stay active throughout life.
The Spirit funded project Girl Make Your Move which was delivered within two secondary schools has now finished but the legacy and ethos of this continues with activities delivered within schools and active social media presence and campaigns to encourage women and girls of all ages to become more active.
