Lewis and Isla with their prizes

What a fantastic couple of days it’s been for Magnum Figure Skating Club at this year’s British Novice Figure Skating Championships taking place in Sheffield Arena.

After attending several qualifying events throughout the season four talented skaters from Magnum Figure Skating Club qualified for this year’s prestigious event. Lewis Macdonald, Isla Forsyth, Lily McKergow and Lottie Bennett coached by Suzanne and Gillian Otterson took to the ice and did themselves and their club proud!

Great skating from the Fab Four saw them all achieve outstanding results in the tough competition. Cousins Lewis and Isla both skated their way to victory and were crowned British Champions.

Lewis’s phenomenal skate secured the top spot in the Intermediate Novice Boys category and Isla’s flawless performance saw her become Basic Novice Girls Champion. Lewis and Isla coached by mum and aunt Suzanne and Gillian have now shared this outstanding achievement with both of the young champions as former British primary and junior champions themselves! Lewis’s mum Suzanne also competed in the 1992 Olympic Games in Albertville, France.

After the devastating closure of Ayr Ice Rink last year the future for the former Kyle Skaters was uncertain. However, the two clubs came together and have gone from strength to strength producing some of the finest talent in the country. They appreciate all the support from the club’s excellent coaching team, members, volunteers and skaters for making this all possible.
